So You Think You Know Cincinnati Baseball History presented for OLLI

In September I presented that Cincinnati baseball program as a one-day talk at OLLI’s Victory Parkway Campus. It included Cincinnati baseball myth busters and some very creative, informative, and entertaining trivia questions.

I have only one more program to give this year, a private program on Ohio astronauts. Therefore my planner is open for more programs at a location near you.

CINCINNATI BASEBALL HISTORY PROGRAM AT BLUE ASH RECREATION TUESDAY, APRIL 6

I will be at Blue Ash Recreation Center for my first talk this year.  I will be offering Cincinnati Baseball Myth Busters. I will be busting many of the most popular myths about Cincinnati’s home baseball team.

I will cover:

The current Reds’ franchise is not the oldest continuous major league, or even professional, baseball franchise.

The Cincinnati Reds weren’t established in 1869.  Neither were the Cincinnati Red Stockings.

Pete Rose did not break Ty Cobb’s all-time hit record in that game against pitcher Eric Show and the San Diego Padres.

The trade of Frank Robinson for Milt Pappas, plus two others, was not close to being Cincinnati’s worst trade.

It is fitting that my programming Opening Day is in Blue Ash because that is where the Crosley Field reproduction is located.  That was the home to many “Old-Timer” games years ago.  Many former Reds’ favorites played there against other former MLB players, and Jerry Springer was an umpire once.

The program is free and open to all.  It will be in the Plainfield Room starts at 10:15 am following coffee at 10 am. 4343 Cooper Road Blue Ash, Ohio 45242-5699 513.745.8500

Enjoying Southwest Ohio for Practically Nothing coming to U.C.’s Communiversity in May

I will be offering my popular program on activities, events and specials in SW Ohio and NKY. Enjoying Southwest Ohio for Practically Nothing will be offered by U.C.’s Communiversity in mid-May. More details to come.

My class on Sport Orienteering went well there earlier this year and it is a real pleasure to work with Communiversity. I also have a couple programs coming up that probably will not be wide open to the public because of some Covid-19 restrictions still hovering over us.

However, if anyone knows of an organization, school, or business that wants someone knowledgeable and interesting to offer a class or program later in the year, have them contact me.

TEMPORARILY SHUTDOWN BY GOVERNMENT RESTRICTIONS

Unfortunately due to the governors’ shutdown of most of the locations where I offer my programs, I have little to mention now. Although my programs don’t draw large crowds libraries banned all programs. And of course, senior facilities have been locked down for quite a while.

I am still available to offer them to schools, churches, businesses, and other groups that are open to 10 people.

I will be offering a class on Sport Orienteering at UC’s Communiversity early next year. Look for their next catalog for more info

I hope to be returning to public libraries and senior facilities early next year.

ORIENTEERING CLASS OFFERED THROUGH UC COMMUNIVERSITY ON FEB. 21

My first program of 2020 will be an introduction to Orienteering, the sport and recreation activity the involves using a map and compass to find markers hidden in a wooden area.  I have been orienteering since I was in college and have been also trying to get friends to try it since then.  My class will tell what orienteering is like, how to get started, and some of the interesting variations such as Vampire-O.  If you can’t make it on February 21,  I may be able to take my program to a library or recreation center near you.
